I got a question for the Salties here:D

I happen to noticed that they had Local Wild Caught Dover Sole at my Seafood department. I asked the guy how it's WC in the US if they're indigenous to European waters (at least from what I've heard). He said that they originated from the waters around the UK, but have been found in small locations on the east coast and west coast of the US. Not sure how true this is, so I'd thought I asked the SW Pros. Would they be invasive or do you think it's a different species that they are passing off as Dover Sole?

There are two species that are referred to as the "Dover sole." One species is Solea solea which is native to European waters while the other is Microstomus pacificus which is native to the northeastern Pacific including the Pacific Coast of the United States. I would imagine that the East Coast ones are yet another species that is being sold as the "Dover sole" as well.

The term "Dover sole" is often used to pass of inferior species of sole, e.g. M. pacificus, as the true "Dover sole," S. solea.
