Hey all,
Just a random question on a small problem that's always bugged me. I use 1/2 vinyl tubing when I do water changes (siphoning into a ~30 gallon wheeled water cooler). How do you guys attach the hose to your tank to keep it from slipping out? I can't think of any ways to temporarily secure a hose without kinking it. The only idea I had was a small PVC rig, a sort of J-shaped piece with a barb for the hose.

Any ideas/contraptions you've used?

edit: btw while I love the idea of a python, I don't have a sink nearby, so that's no go.

Yes, a J-tube contraption works great, cheap to build. Just make sure you solvent weld the PVC together to prevent leaks. Here's mine, I'm using a hose but a barbed fitting would work if you choose to use vinyl hose.

yep that's pretty much what I had in mind. I would probably go with a threaded hose, too, if I decided to build something.

edit: actually, scratch that. I'd have to stick with vinyl because my pond pump (for returning new water) is barbed, no threads for a hose. But thanks for making me feel smart for "coming up" with the J-piece X) That's that college education I'm paying so much for at work!

You could always adapt a vinyl hose to garden hose mender fitting to hook up to your pump. Just make sure you have a clamp on the hose where the barb fitting is. There's nothing worse than the vinyl tubing popping off a running pump.
