I'm trying again to get a male Festae that can hang with my female. In October 2006 I got 6 F1 Festae from Jeff Rapps, 2 male/4 female. The last remaining Festae killed the other 5 plus a couple of other low-grade males that I've given her since. I thought I'd given up and was only going to keep the female but....my LFS got 5 Wild Caught Festae, 1 male/5 female. I bet you can guess that I picked up their only WC male.

I tried to introduce him and the female instantly started in on him. I've since separated him and will wait until he gets some more size on him. Here's a pic of the Psycho B*tch and a few of her new man. He's extremely beat up, tattered and torn right now but hopefully he'll heal and color up nicely. You can see he's still stressed.

Oh yeah and ignore the fork in the last pic...it used to have a hunk of zucchini on it. lol

Comments +/- welcome.

Beautiful female. What size is she?

Thankyou. She's 5". (Yes that's a fork in the tank but I see you've edited that question out of your post.)

BEAUTIFUL female there. what size tank you got these in?

Nice Festae Balton.

Do yourself and your Festae a favour and put a divider in there. That will let them get used to one and other. Just putting a strange fish into her territory is a recipe for diaster.

whats the point of the fork???

also very nice festae female gorgeous colors

:D

yes, i assumed u had put a divider in for the male, But since you haven't, doing that is a great way to try and get the two to pair up. Make sure the divider is STRONG though, i've heard stories of crazy cichlids knocking through a divider just to go beat up the one on the other side.

the female should get used to the male after a while, and then i'd remove the divider and put in some fast dither fish in there. Watch them closely and if you see some fighting, go back to the divider.

Marc and X24. Thank you VERY much! That's great advice. I'll make a divider out of eggcrate when I get a chance. I'm tired of going thru male Festae.
