WC vs Captive bred channel catfish

TL;DR: what is the difference between wild caught and captive bred channel catfish. Will mine keep him golden river tinge color?

So I had a captive bred channel cat that grew to be 14" before he died. Recently, my friends and I were walking through the woods along a creek and heard a croaking noise. In a PVC pipe that was half out of the water was a stuck channel cat. He was dried out but alive. We decided to keep him and grow him out for my pond. He is only just under 2". He has a goldenish tinge to him. Will that stay with him? I've caught big ones out of the same water system that are a golden brown color compared to a black greyish color.

I noticed this too but I have caught both color forms in the wild. I think it is a matter of habitat and diet but I am quite curious to know a more definitive answer to your question too. Let us know too if he changes or stays this color as you continue keeping him. I find the olive color more pleasing.
 
Unfortunately they can change the colors depends on the structures.
 
we had a 30lb albino channel cat, we had him for 10years he died this year (unknown reasons) if i have any pictures ill post them. He was 30lbs when we re did the pond a few years ago, he weighed 35lbs when i pulled him out of my pond.

That sucks that he died. He must of been a good pet.

I have a 1400 pond that he will be move to.
