just recent brought home a pair of red bay snooks a few days ago for my 210g.. and now one of them has laid eggs on some plants and now theyre guarding them. what do i do? do i just let them do whatever? separate them? theyre guarding the eggs ferociously attacking any fish that comes near. other fish in the tank are pbass, gar, tarpon and sunfish.

You can pray the mom and dad are good parents. Or you can seperate the eggs/fish and put an air bubler near the eggs.

so i should separate them at this stage? they seem to be protecting the eggs.

seeing it the first batch and you just got the fish..i think i would hold off and see if any even hatch.. then yes

Woa! What is it with ll bay snooks spawning at once? One of my 2 recently aquired pairs lasyed eggs last week, now these guys... Very cool! :headbang2

My recomendations is to keep posting pictures as things develop. Or just post pics because we like them. :D Those are nice fish. My lfs has red snook for $28 each. They are about three inches.

How big are yours? You can separate your other fish with a tank divider. If your tank is a standard size, you can buy one ready made. If it is a large tank you can make one using egg crate for lighting in suspended ceilings. They sell it in 3x2 sheets at HD and Lowes.

I would leave the eggs and parents in that tank if possible. If you feel confident in moving them, get a transparent plastic bin to move them. It is much less stress than netting and will do less damage.

I would leave the parents in there until they become free swimming.
