hello, i have had my 55 gal. tank for 2 weeks, i have ten african cichlids(malawi lake cichlids) all around 1 1/2" in length and 1 sucker fish. Just tonight we noticed some fish not as active, sitting in one spot. also a couple have been shaking rapidly or twitching but still darting around. ph is has risen a bit, currently around 8.0(ph) not sure about gh or kh yet.
all artifical plants, cascde 1000 filter, water is 80 deg. we use omega one veggie flakes food, and algae wafer for sucker, have added API tapwater conditioner (for dechlorinator) and rift lake salts for the ph balance.
Thank you for any advice/help.

What about your parameters ( ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate ). Cichlids are more of a higher range Ph fish but can take a wide range of ph level, but any fish will not like the Ph adjusting up or down rapidly , so just let your tank stable it self. Make sure you check your parameters. If you don't have a test kit maybe your lfs can check your water for you. Chances are the levels of ammo or nitri or nitrate are high or all three since you said your tank is two weeks old. But first get does checked out.

:welcome: to MFK!

Are you able to examine the gills if they remain healthy red or pale? Do they scratch? If so, are they scratching the same area of the body?

^ Agreed, they are either trying to spawn or trying to establish a pecking order with the other males.
