I have a jewel cichlid that within the past 3 days has started charging the lid. Normally she would do this during feeding time, trying to fill her face before the other mixed African Cichlid and rainbow cichlid gets a chance at the food. One benefit of COVID is that I'm in eyesight of the tanks and am noticing more jumping attempts.

Is this normal behavior? Or could she be trying to run from the other tank mates?

I have a 55g, cichlid sand substrate, 6 hides, and dim lights. This groups has been together since May with little to no issues.

Open to thoughts and opinions.

Yes fish often jump out of the tank accidentally while fleeing a pursuit.

Ding ding!!!

Come to find out the male in the bunch, 1:2 m:f ratio, was taking the aggressive edge in the tank.

Wish I would have looked longer instead of posting something that now seems obvious.

Nothing wrong with your thread.
There is always a daily commotion in my Cichlid & Barb tanks, which involve crashing against glass lids & big splashes.
I've become accustomed to the noises & able to distinguish between something potentially serious & those that aren't a big deal. Lol

Call me sinister but I officially made a "bad guy" tank. It's like prison but for fish. So far my semi aggressive BP has tamed the offending African Cichlid. Hoping I won't have to play warden too much but I'm up for the job when needed.

Does that make me a bad person that I have an evil laugh as I write this?
