Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.


Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

I think this country is greatest when we strike a balance between people adapting and people praticing their native culture, which ultimately enriches our own. Just a thought to throw out there.

I agree with the above the most. In America it seems if you are a majority such as a white Christian male you must adapt to everyone around you. Why cant we all just do our own thing? Why must the majority worry about offending the minority?

Obvioiusly there should be no predjudice but the majority shouldnt change their ways in an effort to appease the minority cause they sure dont do that for the majority!

I also agree with the language. I wish America would make English the official language. I hate going into to Auto Zone or HomeDepot and be totally lost cause everything is in Spanish!

I agree with this but it's very dated and was never implemented. If you want to live in Australia, you learn English, you don't wear your 'rags' in public, and you don't expect special consideration, we shouldn't have to adapt to people who come here, you should adapt to Australia.

This is however a somewhat religion based thread, which is against the rules. Australia is seriously not a Christian country, there a very few people here who practice any form of religion and the country is better off because of it, regardless of what our heritage, principals and documents were based upon when the country was formed officially. I'd estimate around 60% of the 'native' (lets not talk about Aboriginals..) are atheist or do not practice any form of religion/don't care for it.

I'm sure John Howard never said that, too.

If you moved to a different country for some reason, would you want to give up all of your culture? I believe in balance, again, but I also don't think the minority should just be bulldozed into doing things. Part of what we are supposed to be great as a nation for is the fact that we have all of these elements of different cultures. You can't please everybody, of course.
Spanish speakers are going to rival english speakers soon .

Keeping your culture is fine. Be prepared to adapt to the Australian (or wherever..) way of life though. If you don't like how you're being treated by the Australian public, due to whatever reasons, adapt or get out. We have a lot of immigrants expecting us to adapt to them.

I'm all for multiculturalism, I'm friends with a people from many different backgrounds, but too many people treat this country like they belong here, not like the privilege it is to be here.
