On our way home from fishing yesterday, my girlfriend and I stopped in at Tropical Fish & More in Boutte, La. To my SURPRISE, the owner Adam had a baby Electric Eel in stock. He tried to get me to TOUCH it, but at first I wouldn't do it. That is until my tiny little girlfriend touched it 1st. So I had No choice! She got a slight shock, I really didn't feel one . The Eel was only 15 inches or so and kept alone only obviously. Do any MFKers keep Electric Eels?

I almost bought one once... till i realized how big it will eventually get and the fact i have no idea how i would maintain the tank with a eel able to do some serious shock damage...

I think there one of the coolest looking imo but I would never keep one due to the fact that I don't want to die lol

I had one years ago; it was small, and died due to endoparasites (I sent it out for necropsy). It apparently hadn't been wormed correctly when brought into the country.

I've kept electric catfish, and electric eels; when small, the electric catfish packs much more of a wallop than the electric eel. Of course, the eel gets much larger (in terms of length), and the amperage grows considerably with size.

Note that electric eels are obligate air-breathers; they come to the surface now and again.

How did you do tank cleaning and stuff?

With shoulder high, insulated rubber gloves, while making sure you're not grounded of course! You're so silly ;)
