I just got a weeksii that is around 8 inches. It has been fed live livebearers for at least the last 3 months at the lfs. I currently have him in a 20 gallon qt tank with 2 striped raphaels.
Here is what I have to try and get him feeding, let me know what looks to be the best shot. Im from the philippines, so what I have may not be familiar to you.

1. small shrimps, peeled. i think you call it cocktail shrimp. About the size of a nickel.
2. pork heart, fatty parts removed. (i know some have reservations about feeding mammalian meat to fishes re. digestion, but right now I just want to have him start feeding on non-live first.)
3. squid, chopped.
4. tiny shrimp, used for shrimp paste. About as long as bloodworms and 2-3x thicker. (might be too small to attract the weeksii, but it gives off the strongest smell.)
5. glass shrimp, with shells.
6. mussels.
7. pangasius fillet.
8. superworms. (doesn't seem to be a big hit with bichirs, in my experience)

how would you try them, in order?

well first, a 20 gallon is WAY too small for a weeksii, especially at 8 inches. you should upgrade because the more space you bichir has, the more comfortable he/she will be.

and as for feeding them, feed them tilapia. Tilapia is one of the best fish that you can feed a bichir and I'm sure you're able to get tilapia in the Philippines.

It's a quarantine tank. I'm concerned about the possibility of internal parasites, so I'm keeping it in a small tank in case I have to apply medication. I've been scouting this particular piece for a long time, and it definitely has been living off feeders.
I'll try tilapia, but I need to check for availability of fillets. I only see them sold whole, and Im not adept at filleting.

alright, well as for quarantining, use Prazi Pro. alot of MFKers use it to quarntine WC fish. and you can feed tilapia and smelt. thats what i feed my bichirs and they are both doing well

+1

Im pretty much sure u can get the filleting done in the market ye? thats how i get it done.... cut and with skin... ready to go! :) and yeah shrimps are good too.... but tilapia take the cake... cheers

PICS?!:naughty:

our line of medication available here is quite bad. Sometimes we have to buy online and have it shipped overseas, where it gets held up in customs. I might try jungle labs, since it's in tablet form and is easier to ship.
our market is a wet market, no filleting offered, just descaling and removing of guts. You can get live tilapia though. I managed to find anchovies, I'm gonna try that first while I look for tilapia fillets.
Pics would have to wait till its settled, its pretty much hiding behind the filter all the time.
