Is there a trick to weaning a silver off of live food? Mine is about 6" now and I would like to start getting him on something besides feeder fish (raised in a private pond) and bugs (crickets, grasshoppers, ants etc). Are there any tricks besides starving him? He is pretty young to be doing that. Thanks.

shove some pellets into a dead feeder fish

Have you tried just feeding pellets, how long?

I have tryed just pellets for up to 4 days, I didnt want to push it. Is that not long enough?

Is it taking the pellets into it's mouth or just ignoring them. 4 days is not that long, but for a small aro such as your probably not good

bugs arent so bad its the feeder fish which im sure u can control

Persistence is key. Try starving it for an entire day and then feeding it pellets the next day. Keep doing it until it eats pellets, I'm sure it'll give in eventually.

the only way to get it off of live food is to starve it. the aro can go for a long while without feeding. its easier to feed it freeze dried krill and then add some pellets once its taking the krill. this helps because the krill resembles live food more than pellets.

just be patient, dont give in, and dont worry about the arowana starving. Its only going to starve if you dont give it any food at all.
