Just wondering if anyone else have noticed weather changes effecting their large catfish. Seems to with mine sometimes and my friends even more so.

weather of all kinds has many implications for different species of fish. Obviously rains and temp fluctuations are a major trigger for many species to breed. But also length of daylight, lunar cycles, clouds, barometric pressure and just about every part of weather you can think of has an effect on one species or another. Most commonly, feeding, breeding and amount of activity is affected.

It also makes sense that larger fish are affected more than young ones. Older fish have learned a few things such as safety and patience. For example, Its easy to catch young northern pike. They need to feed more and are less cautious. If you want to catch an adult, it will be much much easier if you wait till the correct weather conditions. Pike are cautious about the sun, its best to fish for them on cloudy days.

With catfish especially, bad weather like storms will churn up the water and introduce more debris and food into the water. This will trigger them to feed more. Another example, during the last few months I had alot of luck fishing in Florida. I caught species that Ive never seen before. But anytime there was a rain, the tide went muddy and all I could catch were catfish by the dozens. On good weather days, catching a catfish was uncommon.
