hi all, I recently just bought 2 weather loaches around 7" each, I put them together with the rest of my bichirs in the same tank, questions are, will they be good together? I heard smaller loaches could get eaten by bichirs, which is why I bought the bigger one; another, will loaches suck out the eye of my bichirs?
cheers

They are used as feeders in the far east.So off hand they'll be a snack at somepoint. For future reference avoid shallow bodied fish such as weaher loaches in the future-Anne

Dojos don't suck the eyes. It's the bichirs who will gobble them. Any serpentine loach should be avoided with bichirs, period.

thanks for the reply, I'll separate them into different tank, so far as tank mate in the tank I also have fresh water shark which feed on algae, they much smaller than my bichirs, I saw them being tailed by my bichirs, but missed couse the shark are much faster than bichirs, and it's been a few months now, and they are doing just fine, I didnt want to have plecos couse I heard they suck others slime coat,
cheers

As long as the loach is big enough it shouldn't be eaten. However the loaches prefer a much cooler temperature than your polys and won't thrive.

Bichirs are attracted to the scent of weather loaches. I do use weather loaches as feeders in the past but stop feeding them now as the price went up and they will only become expensive feeders. Even my 8" albino sene will take down a 6" weather loach.

Hi there, i have a tank setup with a 2 6" Inch Albino Bichir and 1 5" Weather loach. Actually they can do just fine and my tank have 5 otto fishes, 1 siamese algha eater, 1 bengal loach and around 20 corycats. I have the same setup for almost 6months now.

Albino Bichir can be taught to eat flakes/pillets only when they are 2" and are very smart and can co-exist with smaller bichirs.

My first experience with my two 4" Bichirs are the loss of 1 3" weather loach, otto fishes and corycats as they have been taught to eat raw elsewhere. Eventually i taught them to eat on flakes. I isolated one bichir that did it, the other bichir wont eat and even bite the other one why it tried. Why, i dont know.

The baby bichirs on the other hand can be trained with ease and have no problem co-existing with other fishes.
