hey guys, i recently downgraded from my scratched up bootleg 125 since there was nothing in the tank big enough or cool enough to justify 125 gallons and 6 feet of wall space, to a 40. then i decided i didn't like the 40 either and gave it away, fish included, to some guy off of craigslist.

now i have a 20L set up with some of my plants and guppies, and a 4 gallon planted for the betta fish. also i have a little more than 60 inches that i want too fill up with a nice 100 gallon and get something deserving of the room. i'm thinking piranhas since thats why i originally got the 125 but since it came with some whack fish that i promised i wouldn't kill, i was stuck stocking peaceful fish until i took it down.

now the reason i'm posting is because the 125 i had bought, i found used and bought it for way too much money and was never satisfied with the way it looked because it was scratched up and didn't have good stock in it and the homemade stand it came with wasn't the best looking ect. ect.
i also made the same mistake when i bought two used 40s and two used 29s, the 40s were drilled but the holes were humongous and i never like how high the 29s looked. plus scratches, wear and tear, trim coming apart ect. ect.

long story short (and i appreciate you reading) i'm looking for a good website for relatively cheap tanks and stands if applicable.
i realize "cheap" in this hobby is still going to be expensive but i figured maybe someone on here could point me in the right direction.

im all for used tanks and used prices, but i'm tired of getting burned on crap.

any help is greatly appreciated

Ian

look for a local tank builder in your area. There has to be a few. Its not very expensive to make a aquarium. 100 gallons was made for me for 300 with euro brace, lids and extra thick glass

so i couldn't come up with a tank builder near me, has anyone else used one from around my area before? new york, 12575 area?

By far the easiest way to get a large good quality tank for cheap would be to move to SoCal and buy one of the hundreds that go up on craigslist everyday there. Or just look on craigslist in your area but be prepared to pass up on a few tanks before you find one worth buying.

aha great. i hate craigslist for fish tanks but thats what ive been relying on previously. id be more than happy to pay the extra however much for a nice shiny new tank with no scratches or build up or anything

you're not to far from NJ, I know there are a few good stores in Northern NJ that have large tanks for cheap. If you have the means to do some travelling you might as well spare a weekend for a new tank. This may seem like its obvious but craigslist is also a great idea, bookmark it and check out whats for sale every day so you get a good idea of how much people are asking for tanks they're selling, then you'll know a good deal when you see one.

I'd keep watching Craigslist. Great deals turn up from time to time. You can get a very nice tank for cheap. Otherwise, local tank makers will be your best bet as others have said. Reef forums are great place to find them, I'm sure there is one for your area. Many reef keepers are into custom tanks, hence custom builders.
