I have 2 neighbors that usually feed my fish if i'm gone more than 2 days. I had one lined up to feed my fish from 12/24 - 1/4 while i'm out of town, and today he told me he got last minute plane tickets and will be out of town for the same time I am. My other option (and only other person I know within 60 miles) already told me he was going to be out of town.

I'm going to be gone for 10 days. Are those time-release feeder thingies any good? I'm really nervous about leaving my fish that long, but the tank is very stable, I typically do water changes every other week, so 10 days will be fine on water quality.

I have 4 Yellow Labs and a pleco all 2.5 - 3 inches in a 55g

Anyone have any advice?

They will be just fine without food for 10 days. I personally wouldn't trust one of the feeders. If it malfuntions or something, you may pollute your tank.

Anything less than 2 weeks i just let them be. And dont overfeed when you get back to make up for it. I once rescued a gar that hadnt been fed in 5 months, and he recovered and survived for years after that.

I highly reccomend Eheim's "everyday fish feeder". It's battery operated and very easy to program. I have used them for many yrs, they are excellent and never a problem or malfunction! The unit works well with flake or pellets.

I have left my mbuna for 10 days a couple times and they were just fine. Just think about it, when the mothers are holding they go without food for a month and are fine. I put my light on a timer so algae continues to grow and they will eat that if they get hungry.
