Becasue that tank is obviously large enough to house that Nurse for life. Thats one of reasons why I hate Big Al's they know nothing about keeping Sharks ethically, however they try to make it seem like they know what they are doing. Really pathetic.

Just because the tank isn't big enough to house him for life, dosn't meen there not gona upgrade when he gets bigger. calm down...

sheesh it's liek let have the damn crab already. i swear i saw that water level drop.

but yes too small a tank, he could barely turn around

Where they feeding it or creating a show to try and impress the patrons? What where they trying to feed it?:screwy:

What (like above) and how are they feeding it. That is a hell of a lot of water that is coming from the tank.

To me it looked like they were trying to tease the Shark to create the splash effect to please the customers watching. Trust me, normally feeding Sharks is nothing like that.

As for Milkmans post, I know Big Al's in Ontario very well. I speak to their employees about their Sharks all the time. When I ask them if they plan to upgrade a Blacktip Reef Shark out of the 800gallon they have it in, they say "Oh, it will only grow as big as the tank. It will be fine" or "We are planning to give the Nurse to the Newmarket Store which has a 3,000 Gallon Tank". To bad 3,000 gallons is still way to small, and the Newmarket Stores system is 7' tall, 5' wide, and about 7'. Half the gallonage comes from the height which is useless for a Nurse.

Anyways, my rant is over with.

now hang on a minute.

I worked there for 8 years.

first of all, it is company policy to have a shark feeding.

you cannot be a franchise owner and not have a shark, its part of agreement, as far as I understand it. You may not agree with that, but that is the way it stands for each big al's store.

secondly, they have been looking for a home for that shark for last 3 years or so. They have had more than one potential taker who backed out at the last minute. I am pretty sure the shark was offered free but I am not sure.

they all know it cannot stay there. If an employee told you he will only get as big as the tank, well, then that may have been one of the newer employees (perhaps since I left) who was mistaken.

despite being in a tank that is a bit small, that shark is very healthy.

I know. I water changed the tank for about 3 years..

and the tank is NOT 800 gallons. It is 1200.

everyone needs to chill. the shark is not going to drop dead tomorrow..its already been healthy for the last 7 years or so..and it will continue to do so until a new home is found.

there. I am done with my rant too :)

if you hate big al's so much, i am sure PetSmart or Superpet will be glad to help you LOL..

you may not agree with the shark tanks at the big al's stores, but their selection and staff are unmatched by anything else in ontario...
