As far as anti anxiety meds, SSRIs and such like lexapro and others, anyone here ever take them and then later need to ween off of the med? Wondered about moods, depression, memory issues, any info you can share, thanks.

I just stopped taking lexapro last month after being on it for 5 years or so. I haven't noticed anything yet. I'll update after the first week of classes.

damn dude 5 years, how much were you taking, thats what Im weenin off right now.

It's a drug to treat depression and anxiety disorder.

I was on 5-10 mg. I was originally on 20 mg, but my body couldn't take it and it caused permanent nerve damage.

Other then what your doctor told you how to do it.... what I usually tell people is you just cant stop all unsudden. You will send your body in to chaos. When you take something for long periods of time, your body is used to recieving that so it slows down production, and when you just stop, your body doesnt realize to make any and you will get headachs body achs or in your case worse anxitey and depression cause its not producing enough dopimen. Its kinda like aclimiation for a fish. you dont just send him from the bag to your tank he will go into shock, same thing with stopping meds.
Usually just taper down 5- 10 mg a week depending on what your dose is. And your body will adjust to it, and start producing natural hormones. And within a few days to a week you will not be so dependent on them.
The thing that sucks is the habit from taking them for such long periods of time. So rather then taking the meds at a certain time of the day that you were used to... replace it with a daily vitamin or some other else healthy.
hope this answered the question for you. But nothing is better then what your doctor told you. he knows you better then anyone most of the time

thanks guys, it hasn't been so bad, really just some time lapse issues and some drowsiness. Just wanted to chat with others who have done it.

i've never delt with those meds but as navykorman said, taper you dosage down gradually. i've had to with many different medications. when i was taking predinisone, i went down 10mg every two weeks when i was starting at 40mg a day. when you go cold turkey is when you can see problems.

I weaned myself off of lexapro years ago, and actually felt better afterward! Definitely try to do it slowly. While in the process, I tried to "support" myself by *always* eating a breakfast with protein and a complex carb (I generally need this for good neurotransmitter production, but I tend to oversleep and miss breakfast, which is not good) and also with supplements that worked for me, like 5-HTP, DLPA, and a tiny bit of DHEA. And chocolate. There are books I read re. all of this, if you want more info PM me and I can find the titles for you.

good luck!!!
