Does anyone have articles on weight comparisons between glass vs. acrylic. Now I'm certain that acrylic is substantially lighter than glass but the lfs owner seems to think that acrylic is only 20lbs lighter than glass (at MOST) at a size of 300 gallons. I told him to make sure he has a few extra people ready when he finds out the hard way.

Sorry I dont have any resources for proof, but it will be funny if the LFS owner tries to move a big tank thinking its light. Just me and one friend moved my 220 acrylic, while it took four to move my thick glassed 125.

he's way off. It took 4 of us to move my 265 glass and 2 of us to move my 300 acrylic. If he adds a "0" go his guess it'll be more accurate.

Took 4 guys to move a glass 210. 4 guys to move a glass 240, 4 guys to move a glass 300.

Took 2 guys to move my 300 acrylic

gives you an idea?

ive heard acrylic is half the weight.

In just a couple minutes with google I was able to confirm that what Sostoudt suggested is true... acrylic is half the weight of glass...

A cubic foot of glass weighs approx 162 lbs…

A cubic foot of Acrylic weighs approx 74 lbs…

That's what I needed to know thanks. I figured it was around half the weight.

Make google your friend... and you'll instantly be much smarter ;)

I could pick up my 110 acrylic by myself, but wouldn't dream of trying to pick up my 125 glass.

Acrylic (needs more math)
Acrylic is .0426 lb/cu. in

Glass
