It's time for my quarterly "thorough cleaning" again. I have to remove 160lbs of flagstone and vacuum the sand underneath. I see 1" mounds of fish doodoo in some places. ;) Don't think I'm not cleaning though. I vacuum out what I can access weekly and clean thoroughly (remove everything down to bare sand) 4 times a year.

Since I'm removing the rocks anyway I was thinking of keeping the majority of them off to the right side this time, kind of like a big cave thingy. I'm worried about weight distribution though. I don't need the bottom glass cracking and spilling 125g of water on the floor.

The flag stone is in fairly big slabs ranging from 0.5 square feet up to 0.75 square feet (bottom surface area) and about 2-3" thick. The bigger slabs weigh in at about 15-20lbs each. They will be resting on a 2.5-3" bed of sand. I plan to have about 120lbs of rocks in the right 1/3rd of the tank and the remaining 40lbs in the middle and nothing but sand on the left. Is this safe?

Here is the current setup that I want to change. Don't ask why, I'm just bored with it is all. lol

Sounds like you have dead spots. You should get a large powerhead, like a koralia or one of the aqueon circulation pumps.

I have a Maxi-Jet 1200 that does help a bit but even with that I was still getting dead spots. I figure if I set up most of the rocks in one area I can blow the jet around behind the rock work thus solving the problem... maybe.

With my current setup there is just way to many dead spots for one jet to handle.
