Im moving into a new place in a few months to finish off my last year or so of college. My sisters room is going to be upstairs. I have a a couple of tanks that im not sure what im going to do with due to the lack of space in the new place so my sister wants a tank up in her room. It is a town house and was built in 2006. Dont know if that helps? Tell me what ya think guys?

Depending how limited your space... you can always sell your setup on craigslist.com. The way I kept so many tanks when I had a lot, I put my 55 gallon in my closet to preserve space worked well, was still able to hang clothes and was nice to grab my clothes on my out and able to feed my fish friends on the way out.

Empty or full? If full how many gallons we talking? A gallon of water weighs in at roughly 8lbs. My 155g without gravel, deco, even without the glass itself added in, weighs 1240lbs! That's just water! Include rocks, gravel/sand, the stand, the tank, equipment and it becomes a alot of weight in a small area.. Only tips are to run the tank the opposite direction of the beams below the carpet or relocate your sister's stuff haha.

Yup I know how much weight we are talking about, Thats why my 240 is down stairs. The top of the stand to my 240 if stain concrete, so the stand to that wieghs about 800 pounds alone. I have a 46 gallon bow front, 80 gallon,55, and a couple of 20's,10's ect. So the question is how many ponds is safe to be up stairs? 500? If its 500 I can put the bow front up there.

500 is nothing.

Look at it this way, would you worry if 3 good size friends stood in the same spot upstairs for an extended period of time? I wouldn't.

You could stick the bowfront up there and have no worries at all.

If you put it next to a load bearing wall you should be good. I have a 125 gal with water and rock its around 1500 lbs. now I live in the second floor of a crappy old run down house that was built ages ago. The structure is so weak you would think it was made out of paper. At first I had it set up in my living room (which has the weakest floor) on a non weight bearing wall and it was scary, every time I walked within 15 feet of the tank the water would clearly jolt around in the tank. SOOoooo obviously I moved it to my bed room which have much sturdier floors and put it on a weight bearing wall. now I can do jumping jax next to damn thing and it wont budge.

I personally wouldn't go over 250 but truthfully nobody can give you an accurate answer beside the person who framed the building (not even the arch./structural drawings since contractors are awful these days)....whatever tank you pick make sure it's placed perpendicular to the direction of the floor joists and against an exterior wall ...and hope for the best
