I am getting ready to build a 125 gallon tank into my wall. It is on the second level of my home. What precautions do I need to take to ensure the floor will support the weight. Or if it will even affect the structure.

need to make sure the floor joists below the tank are running perpendicular to the tank.

and if they are not can you add some to reinforce it?

Sure you could add reinforcement, but would it be aesthetically pleasing from the floor below?

I was hoping to reinforce through the subfloor, and not go through the basement ceiling. would this not be enough reinforcement?

Hard to say without actually seeing it. I would say go for it if the tank is sitting across(perpendicular) the floor joists. If it is sitting parallel then I would consult an engineer or very well educate yourself in the matter.

hello mate, i run a 160gallon tank upstairs with a 30 gallon sump purpendicular to the floor joists, i have to admit i was extemely nervous at first however i have absolutely no problems (so far, knock on wood). I live in an mid 1980ies english house, these houses are notorious sh*t. In which period was your house built in? If your house is built correctly i don't see you having any trouble :)
