Hello!

I've got myself in a bit of a mess here. Bought a 6ft tank - had it all planned out where to put it, but my dad just pointed out that the way that I was going to put it was going with the floor board joyces, rather than across. Due to the weight, I can't put it there anymore, and have no where else to keep it (only a small house)!

Thing is, I have to get a bigger tank than the 4ft I've got now, as the malawi's I have in there are getting too big!

Any thoughts on what I could do? (I'm trying to sell the tank, but it won't solve my big fish problem, so I'd prefer to find a way in which I could keep it!)

Cheers

If that wall it is against is load bearing, you could possibly use it to help support the weight to take some off those joists by attaching the stand to it some how.

But the ramifications of doing it wrong could be catastrophic.

Just because its running along the joists instead of across them doesn't mean it can't support the weight. If you're still worried:

Can you support the beams from underneath? I have a 6ft (125g) tank that runs along 2 joists, and I just used landscape timber in my crawlspace to support them from beneath against any bowing.

My house is over 100 years old, and you know what? The joists haven't bowed even 1/4" in the center. I don't know if they even bowed at all when I added the tank.

Neat ideas guys. I'm pretty sure the walls a supporting wall, so may be able to attach the stand to it - would need some massive bolts though!
As for going under the beams, I dont think anyone's been under since it was made! lol! I'll have to try and find a way in - I like the idea of giving it some extra support!

And thanks for the read ozymadias - definitly got some useful points. It's going to take some careful planning!

Cheers

hmm i know what you mean, under your floor boards is sort if a no many land lol ful of dust dirt rubble etc.

i have an idea but would only work if the tank is downstairs.

what is the idea because i am in the same position just got a 180g and its going downstairs and im a bit paranoid now from reading these forums
