my 14" silver arowana started breathing strangely today. He is opening his mouth for some reason while he is breathing, like he is taking deep gasping. It has been going on for a few hours now. I checked my water perameters and temp and everything seems fine... I've never seen him do this before so I am slightly concern. Nothing drastic has changed recently, so I dont understand what is prevoking this... on a side note, my florida gar does occasionally nip at the arowana, so is stress from that a possibility..? I dont notice any wounds or anything on him. Please, any advice would be appreciated.

Could be stress or shock.

mayb he injured himself while attempting to jump out of the tank... hit the lid so hard prob

yeah his breathing rate has slowed down a bit and hes still eating. your probably right about the jumping. all night I can hear him and my clown knife jumping around. It's terrifying waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of a giant splash and bang. I think I have to sell my gar...

May have attempted to do something beyond take for instance tried consuming something at is over it's bite size for instance. If it's wound less & feeding, you're good. Cheers

Putblike Led moonlight on it during night time. It helps. Sometimes when they CaNt see, they go crazy jumping around.
