So out of nowhere this weird crystal build-up has shown up on the outside of my tank towards the bottom, has anyone else had this problem, and if so what is it??

I just noticed this on my tank too. I think its either:

where the water has run down the front of my tank and when I clean, I just dont get all the way up to the seam on the bottom, or...

there is a slow leak in the bottom seal. I only say this because I have a leak in the top seal and the crystallization on the outside bottom of the tank is getting bigger.

Common! I believe its a build up of calcium or fresh water salt. Mostly from minor water spills that dry and accumulate.

Its not a problem. Just wipe it up after water change clean up.

Water evaporates, salt/ and minerals do not. It is the residual build up of salts and minerals that remained on the tank, while the water evaporated. No big deal, clean it up....this is why it is not ok to top off always, instead of change water. Somehow those same crystals need to removed from the water, they can not be seen in the water.

Unless you have RO (reverse osmosis) water to use for top offs! LOL Sorry:screwy:

Which would be the opposite, and eventually make your water mineral inept....LOL no prob :D

Whoo, I'm glad it's common, cuz to be honest I didn't know what it was, and it looked rather harmful if it had been in my water
