Hey everyone!

I had an idea for piece of decor I wanted to use in my Fahaka tank. It's not anything crazy but I wanted to ask here in case anyone else has done it or knows if it's a goood/bad idea.

So the bedding of the tank is aquaquartz white pool filter sand. The aquarium has 6 mollies that my Fahaka tolerates, a green phantom pleco and a snowball pleco, then there's my Fahaka who's now between 9.5-11" (haven't measured it just eyeballing based on the space he occupies when against the glass).

I love dinosaurs and fossils. With this year being the 30th anniversary of JP I wanted to put a lil something special in the tank. I wanted to get a low end Megalodon tooth, likely at least a 4-6" specimen (hopefully a black one since those cost less and obviously will stick out more in the sand). But, I'm curious if this is a good idea? Is there any chance that the tooth affects the water chemistry somehow or poses a risk to the Fahaka?

It's just an idea and I've yet to find a specimen that makes sense to use at the moment. But figured while I hunt I'd ask here to see of anyone might have any insight.

Thanks in advance to anyone that has any info!

A fossil is just a rock, so I it would take more than just one tooth to effect water chemistry IMO, it might slowly dissolve tho depending on what minerals it’s made off

Agreed. A fossilized tooth won’t have any effect.
Looks like you have a nice size tank and fun with it. That’s what this hobby is all about 👍

Honestly I don't believe we can give a reliable opinion without seeing more of the Fahaka.

Real answer: get one and try a drop of vinegar on it. If it fizzes it'll probably dissolve.
