I'm running an internal pump which i suspect is causing the shock as it goes away after turning it off. The weird thing is, only i get shocked when i touch the water. It has absolutely no effect on the fish (not that i can tell) or my mother. Anyone has an explanation for this ?

its electricity in water. please remove and discard. its not worth your life. wherever the short is will only become greater. i had a powerhead that i used to have in a 60 gal rubbermaid that i did waterchanges with. reached into the container to grab hose and bzzzzzzzz swear i alomst shocked my arms out of the sockets. not fun. your fish does feel something just not as extreme cause they are not grounded. k no more story. just throw it away. dont try to fix, retape, take apart... not a good idea

What does your mother has anything to do with this? Did she touch the water, too? If she touched the water and didn't get shocked, she may wear shoes or slippers with better resistance than yours

the shock is very mild though. are you sure its anything serious ? can you go into further detail ?
Could it be due to iodine in the water?
It looks like you just want to hear explanation, but will not taking advice from others...

yeah i switched it on again and this time it affected my mother as well. i'm going to buy another pump.

It doesn't effect the fish because they aren't grounded, you are. There is stray voltage in the tank from the pump which, as pointed out earlier, will only get worse and is a fire hazard. Replace the pump as soon as absolutely possible.

Same happened to me, will cause hella stress, replace and buy a GROUNDING PROBE! when I first joined mfk a few members recommend one and I have to say best 30$ I've ever spent, its titanium also so it never degrades!
