I was having trouble getting Ishmael (Leopard Sailfin) to touch vegetables so I went to the pet store he came from to get advice. The fish guy looked at me like I'd sprouted a second head and pointed me to the wafers. Since wafers are the only things he'll eat and the pet store guy had an eye-rolling kind of attitude I felt pretty dumb. I know these guys WILL eat if they learn that it's food.
Has anyone had an experience like this at the pet store where an employee didn't quite give them what they were looking for?

I'm just gunna say PETSMART...... one time i was interested in picking up an albino Oscar. i went up to the girl working fish after watching a guy buy a ten gallon starter kit and 2 pacu, and asked her for one she asked what size tank will it go in and since i was buying a 1"-2" incher i said he will go in a 20 but... she then cut me off and said she couldn't sell it to me, i tryed to explain that i had done this before and he would goin my families 125 when he gets some size on him but she wasn't having it, she kept trying to make me look stupid offering me mollies and garbage like that. I ended up Going to an lfs who knew exactly what i was doing that albino Lasted 4 years got to 11 inches and was happy in the twenty and thrived in the 125, Yeah i probably looked like a punk teenager but that was uncalled for.

This happens all the time. I went in looking for blood parrots (franken-fish) and instead of pointing out the abuse and health problems I got a lot of lectures about cichlids and tankmates. nobody believed me that it was just the cichlids going in the tank! And years ago I wondered about piranhas and well....lets just say certain fish come with certain assumptions about you! I have fish mentors now. They steer me away from chain stores.

Its unfortunit that the stores arnt about to provide the correct training. I worked at a petsmart years ago and they didnt have much to teach me.

I can't stand it when an LFS employee tries to interrogate me about what I'm doing with the fish. :swear:
Mind your own unless I ask for advice sheesh....
If I buy feeder fish to give to another fish, is that any more or less inhumane than buying a fish to put with another who may potentially eat them? For example.. a school of dithers....
So I find the best response to their nosiness is.. "Just scoop the fish please" :irked:
