My green anole has a large lump growing out of it's chest area.

This concerns me, as I think it's most likely internal parasites, I noticed it today.

I cleaned out their tank.. and don't know what else to do, from what I know there isn't much

I can do about this.

Ok bad news. I think it is Abscess which is no good.

Im hesitant to try to drain the puss out with a needle myself, and im also not 100% sure what it is yet. I'll try posting a picture.

It also saddens me, because I dont want to take it to the vet to get a $25.00 treatment
on a $3.00 lizard that may not even work.

Should I try it at home if I find out what it is? Im afraid that would just lead to much more suffering than it would have endured naturally.

It IS a pet correct? I once had a 300 dollar leukemia treatment done on my bearded dragon, which they said probibly wouldn't work. :( It didn't.
I say go to the vet if you arn't sure.:grinyes:

I just operated.

I cleaned a needle off with heat and rubbing alcohol.

I punctured a small hole, and wore rubber gloves which were rinsed.

I squeezed all of the green puss out. until it was a minimal amount of blood, much the way you pop a zit.

I cleaned off it's wound. During the process I was very careful not to push the lump into any other part of its body.

there is absolutley NO sign of the lump now, I added heat to the tank to help its immune system. It is resting on a thick branch under the lamp now.

Hopefully it recovers very well. BAH that was INTENSE im a surgeon.

Well hope it recovers. :)

That is not cool.

The only reason that procedure was painful, is because you wouldn't or couldn't spend the money to treat it apropriately.
There are probably several organizations in your area that would have taken the animal and given it veterinary care, before adopting it out.
There are many medications that a vet could have used to lessen the pain involved in drainage. They also could treat with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to promote healing.
If there was no way that the animal could have been treated correctly, then a humane euthanasia, is prefferable to surgery w/ no pre or post operative care.
Please think before cutting.

heat helps the metabolism, not the immune system.

your a fool for doing that on your own. TAKE IT TO THE VET!!! you still dont know whats wrong or if its even going to get better, if it does your one lucky son of a gun, or your anole is going to get hit hard by something worse in the future, poor guy, i bet that hurt like hell :(

sorry to be so harsh.
I have beeen a tech at exotic only vet clinics for 3 years now, and I've seen too many doctors and clients ignore the fact that reptiles feel pain.
I would highly suggest you get you lizard to one so that a course of antibiotics gets started, to prevent the return of that abscess.
Also, ask about meloxicam, it's a great oral pain killer that will relieve pain and stop inflammation without sedating your pet.

Good Luck,
