So this morning I got up and was sitting on the couch, and across the room something caught my eye. I walked over to the tank to get a better look. Wouldn't you know my severum has this weird looking growth protruding out of his face. right by his lip and under his eye. If anyone could tell me what this and how I can treat it, I would be extremely appreciative.

looks like maybe a scratch that got infected? I can't see it too well. If that IS the case I personally would use herbtana by microbe lift. Gentle yet effective med. Don't take my word for this one though. Get a second opinion. Maybe try to get a closer pic if you can.

My severums get weird-looking pimples, scratches, and gouges all the time from fighting, crashing into driftwood while chasing each other, etc. Does it look fuzzy like fungus, or is it just a white pimple?

Does the fish eat and act otherwise normal? If so, I'd just keep the water clean with frequent water changes and watch it over the next few days.

It's not fuzzy and it doesn't look like fungus or anything. It looks like the head of it's white but around the base of the pimple it's a reddish color.

He eats and acts normal so I'm not too worried. I did a 40% water change yesterday and I will probably do another one tomorrow. I normally do a 25-30% change by weekly but I think I will do 3 or 4 this week and add aquarium salt and see if that helps.

It's funny. Fish keeping is suppose to be relaxing and reduce stress, but when ever the littlest things happen to my fish I freak and get even more stressed.

Thanks for your help!

lol. that happens

I had a feeling it would go away. My turquoise severum and chocolate cichlid both get them all the time around their gills. It's always a single pimple, and within a couple days it's usually gone. The fish never exhibit signs of stress or sickness, they never lose their appetite, and the other fish in the tank never seem to contract anything, so I assume it's harmless.

my severum use to get them alot when he was in with my psittacus who would chase him relentlessly. now that he's in a different tank he hasn't had a single one

Truer words were never spoken, it's only relaxing if you don't give a crap or after half a bottle of Chianti, then it all looks good :naughty:. Salute!

I think it will go away as fast as it shownd up, I've seen that before and by the time I thought I should do somthing it was going away.
