Weird growth on seahorse tail

Eggs??

Most likely it looks like a bacterial or viral growth? Any way for it to injure itself? How is the water quality - these guys are sensitive. Is the seahorse still acting fine?

Yeah kind of look like eggs. I've had Seahorses and never seen a tail like .
Please take another pic of the Seahorse detached and swimming.

pic came in from my brother in law who works at an importer/supplier. Not sure how many are in the tank or how long they've been there, I'm at work currently, I'll find out later.
