Weird growth

Does anyone know what this is? Some kind of algae?

It seems to only grow in my filter. I scrub it off but it grows right back. Is there any way to get rid of it? Can it cause any harm to my fish/system?

Hello.

When i used to have a cannister filter that sort of growth was common and it never seemed to hurt or casue any damage to my fish. Then when i changed to a trickle filter, that growth obviously disappeared with the old filter which was never used again.

Thanks, I didnt think it was harmful since I have been fighting it for a while now but it is a pain!!!

It is a freshwater setup. It is a pain and I want it DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL any ideas... anyone?
