Alright so I just got this Green Terror around 3 weeks ago, I new from the start he had some rips and what not on his fins. I got that just about fixed up, I bought some Micore-Lift Herbal Actives Artemiss from my local petstore since thats what they told me would help speed up the healing process. I followed the directions and everything was fine till now... Now I notice some white specs in my Green Terrors fins. I will put a picture to show what I was noticing. I don't know the exact name for these fins that the specs are on but on the top fin towards the back and the right side fin there is one also. I want to get rid of these and make sure this wont hurt my other fish or my terror. Thanks in advance for information.

This just showed up? There are a couple of possibilities one is an encysted parasite that would require an intermediate host, such as the fish being eaten by a bird to develop if this is the case there is nothing you can do and it poses no threat to your fish. It could be early stages of Anchor worm, while I am not convinced this is what the fish has it's worth a mention. The other possibility is Lymphocystis which is viral, there is no treatment it can flair up and go dormant as fast as it showed up. In sever cases the fish will develop a cauliflower type growth. This is a common viral condition and in most cases the fish is fine in all other respects. I never like to suggest this because people tend to think the worse. I only mention it as one possibility. The bottom line here is I don't know exactly what it is but I wanted to reply to your thread so you don't think you were being ignored. Maybe someone will come along that can positively I'd this. In the mean time keep the water very clean, add some aquarium salt 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water will not hurt and keep a close eye on it for any changes. It may just go away on its own or just stay there with on change.

I second everything Tom mentions and will add....

In cases where fish have been fighting and damaging fins I have also seen lumpy white growths. These can be scar tissue forming in the fin. They will normally clear up as the fish heals. It can also be something bacterial. Unfortunately the picture doesnt give us the best view of the issue to really say as well as there are several possible causes.

Is it more like really small specs? Large cottony growths? sprinkles of salt? Lumpy growths or cauliflower like? Ive had the lumpy or cauliflower like growths happen before as well as some smaller lumps/spots that were either Lymphocystis or scar tissue from fighting. It eventually went away and there is no cures or treatments. Some time scar tissue will stay in the fin. But either way if this is what it is its not harmful.

Really need a better view or description. It really depends on what it is.

If I had to say what it looks like exactly, I would say it looks like a small cotton ball of sorts at the tip of the fin. Like I said this fish had some pretty torn up looking fins when I first got him and they seemed to be growing back normally and started to look nicer. But I noticed these little cotton ball looking things on his fins. I noticed another one today so now he has 2 on his top fin and 1 that is on his side fin. I don't know exactly what they are but I did take a few better pictures to see if anyone might know exactly what it is or could be.
