Well I have this interesting little JD in my QT tank with a big texas, both have sunken bellys, and they've stopped eating so i decided to toss in one of my female cons in there to possibly get them to eat. My thinking is when she eats maybe they'll eat too, monkey see monkey do. As soon as i released her, my JD starting doing this to her.

If she swims away he'll swim normally and once she stops he'll stand up again

And this is what he looks like when hes not doing tricks. lol

Either posturing as to fight, or just being threatened. Maybe a swim bladder problem if water parameters are fine. Or a water quality issue. I just saw that you said hes not doing it all the time, so its most likely just posturing even though you usually see this with larger cichlids its not uncommon as they start to mature.

My JD doesn't seem to show any aggression though, no chasing, no flaring and no lip locking but I'll keep an on eye on both of them.

I meant standing as in it looks like hes standing up. Garlic juice right? I wonder if Jewel or Target carries something like that.

Probably his swim bladder. Try taking out the water up to the surface to let the air out then put him back.

I think it is to show his is subordinate to her. Kind of a don't pick on me, I'm not threat.

Yeah lol, definitely not some sort of disease if you can see clearly that he does it specifically towards one target (the female convict).

Oooh they might breed. :P

That could be it. He might be trying to make himself look bigger. They might breed but he is still to small for it.

since it happens when she gets close and not when shes away im going with he feels threaten blood parrots ive notice do this to avoid eye contact and thus avoiding a lip lock fight wich im sure your jd is doing
