Righto then, I was thinking the other day about selective breeding and how you can breed the 'best' fish. SO, if you were to breed two different fish together e.g. Red devil x jaguar, and create a new hybrid. If you selectively breed the fry that resemble mostly a jag or red devil and keep doing this over a number of years (put inbreeding aside for a minute) could you eventually (and I'm talking over a decade or so of doing this) almost entirely breed out the genes of one of the fish and end up with an almost 'pure bred' fish? i.e. From the example before if you selectively bred the fish that most resembled a jaguar Cichlid, over long periods of time from doing this could you eventually end up with a fish that looked like a 100% normal jag by breeding out the red devil genes? (I know inbreeding would impact this but just for this pretend inbreeding doesn't exist
). Yeah, weird question and probably in the wrong section, lol.
