just thought this was a weird setup for fish. anyone else with interesting combination of fish?

2 lamprologus multifasciatus
3 male guppies
4 ghost shrimp -- larger than all my fish

i thought it was unique because i'm going to add more guppies for my upper/middle water column and more multis for the bottom of the tank :headbang2

can't wait!

I love shrimp! Most people overlook ghost shrimp as feeders so it's nice to see someone incorporate them into the crew.

I would love to add shrimp to my tanks, But my fish seems to always eat them.

I added ghost shrimp before, they died for no reason...they were from petsmart though, I'd get more but my lfs doesn't carry them.

Lately we've had issues finding ghost shrimp too. I found a place that carries them for like 15 cents more than I usually get them for. Not bad I guess but when they are feeders that can get expensive. I want to breed Red Cherry Shrimp to feed to my poly and also to sell back to the LFS around here....none of them carry them because they say they can't find a source. Sorry a little off topic but I love shrimp! :D

Anyway shrimp are awesome they usually clean up any leftover food, sometimes algae and even dead fish.

Those tiny cichlids sound neat I want to see pix!

how do you keep your guppies from picking at the shrimp? mine always pick them to death!

I never had that issue so I really am not sure what to tell you. I can say I have housed guppies with ghost shrimp before. I had a nice community tank set up for about a month then we lost power for a week and I lost all my fish except for 4 ghost shrimp and a cory cat. A few days later 1 shrimp died....I think it got TOO COLD for him to molt. My ghost shrimp swim with the fish and come to the top when it's feeding time.

ill post pix asap. the guppies don't pick on the ghost shrimp because the guppies are too small. the largest ghost shrimp is about a solid 1.5" and the largest guppy is about 3/4"

my multis just had babies too but i think the guppies may have picked them off. i don't mind tho, it's probably safer that way. i'm definitely ready to have the entire tank spawning tho. lol guppies/ghost shrimp/snails/multis!!! i'm so excited

and you can check aquabid for the cherry reds. there are a bunch of good deals from around the world so it shouldn't be hard to find them.

i have pictures and videos of the fish but the video is about 34 minutes long. i left my camera running while i left cuz the adults/fry are really timid. any way to split up the movie? i have pix i'll post tomorrow morning!:headbang2
