:WHOA:I had kept my BGK's in a seperate 15g tank. One of them started getting cuts on her fins, I put some Tetratonic which help in many diseases for fish.

After two days, she started 'sleeping' in the bottom and only coming up to eat and today she :rip died:rip

any idea how it happened?

BGK are scaless fish (or have a very tiny scales base on my experience). They are sensitive to medications, any meds you put there will kill them. The cuts in the fins will regenerate, but if it looks like a bite mark it won't regenerate. If you want to treat a bgk use aquarium salt and heater.

So she died cause of the med? My other BGK might have bitten her up scince they are territorial?

Lets say this, bgk have a weak electrical current to track down food, and probably detect thier surroundings. If you have two bgk who are in the same tank, they will kill each other, why? They both will detect (by weak electric current) each other and will see each other as a threat.

If you put a lot in a tank, chances are the agression will disperse. But you will also eventually see a casualty in one or two.

But someone here in the MFK are lucky to put two bgk in one tank w/o any agression to each other.

Point taken. so i'v kept my BGK with my angel and X-ray fish.

The MFK member you spoke about might have alot of room for the two mixed with other fish.

Anyway thanks!!!!!!! :D

Actually he only has a 75g tank with two bgk.
And their was someone also who has a pic of a bgk and a elephant nose (they also have weak electric current) living together in one tank and they are already big. I think it was Miles who posted it.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your BGK, but what dark_knights_99 is saying is correct. BGK are known to be territorial and usually fight. Some people are lucky and get a pair or a good mix community of Knives. Knives are med sensitive and should be dosed carefully. Ripped fins will heal on their own, but bitten fins are something to keep an eye on next time. Good Luck! ;)

In theory, as the Tetratonic is just a general tonic it may not have killed the bgk but I haven't used it or have a bottle to read the full instructions. Please read them as it may take the blame away from that. Personally I'd say it's due to small tank and multiple bgk's (more than one) as said above.
Until recently when a 6" bgk developed a weird lump/swelling i had 2 in a 4ft tank with no problems, probably as the 2nd one is 12" long and didn't see the small one as a threat but I DON'T advise it. This was only because the small one was a rescue one.
I've been keeping bgk's for about 3.5 years but I don't know everything about them but i'll help whenever I'm here if others haven't :) Which is VERY seldom ;)
Just stick to 1 in a 15g tank (if small) and try to use salts and heat as remedies for ailments most of the time but do as you have and ask here for help first. The bgk would prefer a bigger tank though :)
Elephant nose and BGK, well personally from what i've read it's best not to mix but as I've never tried it I can't say if it's right or wrong. They have different signals and can confuse each other when hunting for food. Obviously someone has them together and I pressume they ok but I'd say make sure the tank is large and do plenty of research first about the different sound waves :)
Hope the other bgk is ok :)
