I have a male and female con. Ever since I brought them home, they have been very shy, and too spooked to even pair. Today I was cleaning the house, playing some music.. Forgot there is a speaker by the new tank I set up.. and the fish came out, and the male is making a nest. I guess the soothing sounds of lil wayne threw em into the mood... or coincidence either way :headbang2 time for some babies.

NO! lol as a matter of fact I cant even get them to eat from the top of the water... ive been using sinking pellets

Wow. From my experience, cons are very personable. Even my month old con fry swim up to the top to beg for food. Cons aren't too picky, but are your water parameters ideal? Appropriate tank size? They are very moody. When I first got my male, I put him in my 6.6 gallon as a growout, and his bars faded and he had a huge pink blotch above his pectoral fins- I thought he was a she. When I put him in my 20, he colored up instantly and lost the pink.

If your cons don't at least swim around and beg for food, especially when you come near the tank, I would say that something is wrong.

lol i just threw the hikari floating pellets, they ate em right up. I guess i Judged them too soon. Still not eating out of my hand... I see you also have cons, your female looks great what are you feeding?

Thanks, I usually feed them Hikari Massivore Delight, and frozen and freeze dried brine shrimp once a week. How long have you had your cons? Sounds like they're beginning to get used to the new digs.

lol 2 weeks, they bred in the 1st week. I really don't raise cichlids too often. Only ones I really have cared for are festae. Everything else has be ancient, gar clown knife, aros... My festae was really mean, but nothing like breeding cons. However my festae was pretty big, and would break down dividers to get to the female... these guys just attack anything for no reason. lol yesterday I saw my male attacking my heater...

think about trying the firemouth x con ever try it?

I was thinking about it, well see in the future. Right now, my firemouth is at least 2 inches bigger then my female con, and he is the outlet for my fry. Every LFS I went to said they don't accept fish from anybody other then their breeder. But I spoke to a guy at Petco and he said he'd take 2 or 3 fry off of my hands.
