A short, funny story: The other night my soft shell turtle was biting my polys pretty badly, so I transferred him to a styrofoam container and posted him up for sale. So I get home at about 5:00 after a long day and I go to check on him. At the very moment that I slide the lid off and realize that the turtle has escaped, a 14" florida gar goes torpedoing out of the tank and onto the floor. It took me a minute to get my bearings and realize that he was flopping around on the floor-- I know this can happen, but it was the first time I've had one of my fish jump on me. I hadn't even closed my apartment door!
Long story short, everything ended fine. The gar appears unfazed, even though I swear he must have been 7' in the air at his highest. After an extensive search the turtle was located and is now doing fine in a more secure container.
