So this may seem a little silly but I am overly curious as I read through the DIY tanks section. :) I always have a curious mind about things and several threads I read gave me a brief inspiration (insanity???) Ok so here goes.

What if you bought a tub of Weld on #40 and coated the inside of your plywood tank with it then of course using it to glue a front viewing panel on as well?? Would this work at all? I'll let you guys debate it out and I will come to check later.

Sounds feasible... but would it be worth it? Does it adhere to anything like wood good enough? How would it take flexing? Would that much surface area of weld-on leech something into water? Would it be cost effective over other products out there?

You might be on to something, but I wouldn't want to be the initial guinea pig....

this link says it adheres to wood also. Hmm maybe my idea is crazy but why hasn't anyone used this to secure their acrylic panels in their plywood builds???

Says it bonds to polyesters as well. So why not make a ply build seal it with ploy resin and just seal the acrylic in with this???

Quote from the company itself.

"Weld-On #40 2 part Plexiglass Acrylic glue is a clear two-part, reactive, high-strength cement for bonding all acrylics to each other and to polyester, butyrate, PVC, styrene, wood, etc. Weld On 40 Meets Mil Spec A-8576 Type III."

lol maybe time for a test tank??? I could use another tank haha

hmmm on the other hand I have a feeling that thermal expansion rates will differ too much if the acrylic is bonded to the wood I think it would crack and fail over time.......Dilemas!!!

Too expensive lol...yes it would work...no different than any other epoxy inside a plywood tank tho, it may be a bit stronger. Theres still a large chance of it cracking tho. Its around $135 a gallon

It may be possible to add less hardener so the product remaims a bit flexible when dry but thats def. Room for testing
