im gonna get a marble cat shark. i also got the book in. oh i was wondering could i put a bamboo shark, coral cat shark, marble cat shark, and a couple other sharks in the bammboos famliy, and a cortez ray, yello ray and maby one guitar fish all together in a 350, 6 foot diameter, bye 2.5 high.

Well - all of those elasmos in a single 350 gallon pool/ tank is a bit of an overload. But by the way a 6' diameter pool x 2' deep equals about 420 gallons.

The coral & marbled catsharks can easily live in the same pool/tank as bamboos - they generally come from the same area(Indo-pacific), and require the same water conditions(temps, salinity, & habitat).

The only ray on your list that could work with them is to Cortez. as it to is a pacific species. But it's general hardier to keep than any of the sharks on your list. In fact - all of the rays are on your list are hardier to keep than the sharks are.

The Yellow ray & the Guitarfish are both atlantic species.

Generally mixing atlantic & pacific species together is a Big NO NO. Each species may carry parasites or diseases that are native to it(therefore they are immuned to them), but which the species from the other ocean may have little or no defense. So in effect you could possible have a big die off in your tank/pool.

Your best bet - go with a tank/pool for the sharks only. The Brownbanded bamboo, with a Coral & Marbled catsharks will be enough - for a 6' diameter pool. -If you still want the rays then put the yellow ray & guitarfish in one tank, and the Cortez in another.

Your sharks & rays will be happier, for it.

hmmm ok

Another way to think about - fishofdoom - is like this.

First figure the volume of your tank/pool.

in this case 6' diameter x 2.5' deep = roughly 525 gallons

Take the sharks/rays you wish to keep - and add up their minimum require tank size(in gallons), using Scott Michael's Book.

First the sharks.

Brownbanded or whitespotted (180 gallons)
Coral Cat shark (110 gallons)
Marbled Catshark(90 gallons)

So you have about 380 gallons.

both the Cortez & yellow require at least a 180 each.
The guitarfish requires 200.

So any ray/guitarfish puts you over the limit.

its actually 70 for the marble cat shark

oh and thanks for the info one more question i want a blue spoted ribion tail ray. could it go with the sharks? i ben feeding and taking care of the ray for the past 2 weeks at the fishstore

Yes, the marbled cat is 70 gallon by Scott's recommendations. Which in reality are a bit low for all species he has in the book. But the truth is I generally increase all of Scott's estimates by at least 25%

As for the Bluespotted Ribbontail ray(Taeniura lymma) - every thing I read or heard (including Scott's book) states that this is a species that has a low survivability rate(even Scott rate it a 1 to 2 - on his aquarium suitablity scale), and also it requires at least 260gallons to keep it.

Honestly - if you really want a ray in with your sharks - get the Cortez. It should be easier to keep than the Bluespotted Ribbontail, & it has a smaller adult size.

Personally I would say if you add a ray - you should think about getting a larger pool(at least 750-1000 gallon range), ASAP.

i see how the pool im geting gos for three sharks then if i feel a ray can go in there i get one maby

Well - hears some food for thought - if you haven't already got the pool - try to find how much more it would be for a 8' diameter vs. a 6' diameter. I would be willing to bet it's not a big difference in price.

I know I've seen a 9' diameter - approx 1,000 gallon poly pool for under $300.

ya i know its just the room i have and s 6' is perfect fit in my room.

Okay - well, if it must be a 6' wide pool - how about a 6' x 6' square pool - instead of the round.

here's the difference.

a 6' x 6' square gives you a 36 sq. ft footprint
and with a 2.5' depth - you'll get a pond about 670 gallons.

the 6' diameter round pool gives just 28 sq. ft. of footprint
and the 2.5' depth will give you about 525 gallons.

these little corners make a big difference in footprint & gallonage.

the 670 gallon should be enough for all 3 sharks & a Cortez live in for many years .
