ok i figured the only way to see if this would kill my fish was throw it in! i will do xtra water changes and monitor quality a little more closly for a while. maybe i will be posting in the lessons learned forum:( but i hope all will go well. i think its pretty bad ass! wish me luck:cool-1:

I gotcha now. I thought you wanted to protect the skull rather than protect the fish. If the fish show any sign of stress, remove it and do some daily water changes for a while. Daily water changes wouldn't be bad just in case.

so far its been about 12 hours and all seems well, the fish are just as active and even my pleco is out of hiding and hangin by the skull. i think i will do about 20% water changes daily for a while just to be shure.

do you have a test kit? i would be testing for increased calcium in the tank.

Looks really awsome tho! Would love to see some full tanks shots. what size of tank is that?

By the way, I meant to complement your arowana. It is a beautiful fish. Is it a silver or a juvenile red?

well, i came home and the horns looked like they had a milky coating on them so i rubbed my finger on them and whatever the taxedermist sprayed on the horns was rubbing off.i pulled the skull out as soon as i noticed this and did a 80% water change. the fish are acting fine and still look great so i think i got it out just in time to not do any harm.i strongly suggest to anybody else(and myself from now on!) that if u dont know something will be safe in ur aquarium, or "think" it will be ok, do not put it in!

perhaps it can ge cleaned/cured. re-boil it & clean that bad boy up.

I could ask a taxidermist friend of mine if he thinks he could make a cast of it without damaging it then make a replica (or 100) that would be fish-safe.
