so i get a phone call(at work) from my wife saying that the tank is leaking.
short back ground story is that my wife really does not care for them but
she knows i enjoy it. so all pissed she says the floor is all wet... i get home
dry everything up and there is no leak to be found not to mention that there
is only like 1-2 inches of water missing from the tank and my filters were full.
i looked everywhere i could but nothing is leaking..so at this point i am baffled...
after thinking and looking really hard at what could be leaking i came to the conclusion
that the rays must have pinned one of my discus to the side of the tank and was
probably thrashing in the water .. btw the runt of my discus is missing. this is what
triggered me to think of this. he was probably only 2-3 inches when the rest of them
are 4-6 inches...
any thoughts besides the rays having an expensive treat? lol

I've had HOB filters tilted to far backwards and water overflowed leaking an inch or two fo water out of the tank before I noticed.

1-2" can be 10-20 gallons depending on tank size. I think on my 200 gallon it's about 15-20 gallons so that's a lot of water to be leaked from a ray.

I say 1-2" is where my overflow is so when I stop my tank my sump raises a good amount about 5-10 gallons.

Even 5 gallons is a lot on the floor. Something is off

i totally agree, but there is absolutely nothing leaking, i cant see any other reason why there
would be water on the floor plus a small discus is gone

Have you filled the tank back up yet? Is it possible that the leak is higher up the seam and isn't leaking because the water level got lower than the leak.

Yeah I filled it and checked this morning. No leaks to be found

One of my old rays would splash a lot of water out of the tank. She was a ~11" motoro, very aggressive and would pin other fish against the glass to try and eat them which usually would make a mess. That said she would also do the surfing thing at the surface of the water in the current. Sometimes something would spook her so she would try to quickly dive back down. Doing so flipped a lot of water up, even with glass lids on the tank. There were times I'm guessing she pushed more than a couple gallons out.

If your guys had a struggle up near the surface for any length of time and got the water sloshing around I could see it, depending on how big your tank is.

That has happened to me. It was on an aquaclear. The little piece of plastic that holds it up that is supposed to be adjustable fell out. I ended up gluing the piece of plastic in place.
