So I tried to add a 7 or 8 in Tinfoil barb to my 130 gal. That didn't go over too well as I was warned it might not. My giant gourami relentlessly chased the poor guy around the tank. I tried switching some decorations around with no luck. Since I knew this was a distint possibility I was standing by with an ungravel filter panel to seperate them. I will be taking the barb back to my LFS when i get home from work today.

A friend is giving us another 130gal tank we just have to go pick it up. So I'm consitering switching things around when we get it. I'm thinking about putting the Giant Gourami in one tank and leaving my catfish (13inTSN and 7in domino syno)in the other.

Any suggestions what I could put in with the GG? Would he be less aggressive if I started the other tank and added his tank mates first? Or do you think he should be a loner?

Then for my catfish tank I'm thinking about makeing it a community tank. What are good community fish that have some size to them? I don't want any that would mess with my TSN (as he is my pride and joyand is kinda skittish) but they have to be big enough not to fit in his mouth.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but that 130 isn't going to be nearly large enough for a giant gourami. I had mine in a 210 and it wasn't big enough. I bought a 300 but still didn't think it was a big enough tank for it so I found it a good home in a 1500 gallon tank.

I don't know what you could successfully keep with it in a 130. He pushed my fish around in the 210 and they were all pretty aggressive cichlids.

Anyway, kudo's on keeping an eye on the tinfoil barb and being responsible enough to get rid of it.

I'm aware of how big everyone will get and have indoor pond plans for when everyone outgrows their tanks. But for now....what do you think about my plans?

It sounds like a pretty good plan. The more room you can give each one the better so adding the aditional tank is a good idea. I wouldn't put anything in with the gg in the 130 though. Give him the tank to himself until you are able to get the pond up and running.

Thanks! I've always done balas over tinfoils. Are the fins of large tinfoil barbs usually that bright red? What can you feed them to get that bright red?

Tbh I all I do is feed quality foods and excellent water parameters and fish will show good color .

Okay. Thanks. I may give tinfoils a try when I restock my tank in the near future. Maybe do a mix of tinfoils, bala sharks, and filament barbs this time for my dither fish.
