what a whirlwind day.

over here it's mothers day, wife woke up said let's get out of here and go round some fish shops, well happy with that.

so figured we would hit a not so local shop that normally has a selection of fish not always the best but as good as it get round here for the monster stuff. well not sure if it was just today, they were busy or something but it was horrendous to the point it made me complain. normally i'll pass this off as a result of being so busy but it couldn't be. i only went in to look for a new tank and may be grab some bits and bobs or a dither fish or too but i wanted to buy the lot and take them away.

15" male dovii 5-6" possible female one tiny hide and swimming around in at least a week of waste in the bottom

zebra shovelnose same again, but the tank next to it was full of ich.

any way you get the picture, funny how all the main display tank looked awesome and hiding the worse tanks

my daughter messing in the background.

anyway i couldn't take them all but one thing i could take was a fahaka puffer, all stressed out in with a much larger cichlid, surrounded but tanks full of ich and dirt. i have been looking for one but wasn't in a rush as i didn't have a tank for it.

anyway needs must. i got him out of pity and felt for the guy. so got home cleared out my bristlenose breeder 30G, it's nice and mature and a perfect tank to quarantine it in as it's in my sons room and isn't anything fancy. I will be having a move around shortly and will get him in a much bigger tank. but for now it will help to keep an eye on him. oh he is about 3-4".

tank is a bit cloudy as i added more substrate and stuff, also had to add a light as normally keep this tank dark for the bristlenose lol.

That poor dovii looks miserable :(. Good on you for saving that fahaka. Be sure to keep us updated so we can see the Monster that he becomes.

so tank has all cleared up and he is feeding so thats all good news now i'm just looking for some ideas to set the tank up for him a bit better, i know it's only temporary but still needs to be better.

the rest of my puffers even the brackish tanks have plants and stuff, i have added some to his but may need more.

so any ideas.

Well going to look at a new rack on Friday, rack is two 5x2x2 tanks so 120G each one will be the fahaka new home hopefully. Just need to work out where I'm going to squeeze then in the house hahaha

Maidenhead Aquatics? Can tell by the tank set-ups, and signage...

They are usually well kept fishkeeping stores, whereabouts was this one?

yeh i have to agree, i have one real private owned LFS that is amazing for ordering stuff in but i generally find food and stuff is cheaper in the chains. we have 4 MH stores around me within 10 miles which is great as each manager is into different fish so each shop has different stock. normally all of them are clean tidy and well looked after, but this is the largest store stocks alot more cichlids and monsters and it can be at times a bit on edge but this time i was disgusted. the worst thing is i have even sold fry and stuff to this shop. i hope it was isolated and the next time its back to its normal standard. also the staff all looked new. the big display tanks are all amazing the one pictured is the smallest, the marine is 8x8x4 (keep meaning to ask what glass they used) and the koi pools are mental. just a shame i wanted to ask if they had a spare syphon and bucket id would have helped out lol

No excuse really. I like the MH closest to me, but i was pretty shocked when I asked the manager about C02, and she gave me a blank look and passed me on to someone else.

IMO you should be an enthusiastic Fishkeeper, to be in charge of these stores; passionate hobbyists would make for better upkeep etc too
