Not sure where to put this. I went to Big Darby Creek to help my environmental science teacher with teaching kids stream quality monitoring. He asked me and few kids that had him last year to help out. It was pretty fun, I got to teach little kids all day and show them the different macro-invertebrates, tons of darters, and we got what seemed like a million crayfish. We even caught a few tippecanoe darters which are threatened in Ohio. There were a bunch of booths set up by the different volunteers for the ODNR. There was a guy with atlatls for spear throwing and another guy had a screech owl and an american kestrel which were really cool. I wish I had pictures but I didn't take a camera because I was in the creek all day. Just though I would share.

I also forgot to add the ODNR guys next to us caught a bunch of fish by electrofishing. They caught a really nice smallie, a small pike of some sort, and a bunch of darters and sunfish. What really caught everyone's attention was the 25 inch channel catfish and the 28 inch flat head catfish. They set up the tanks to teach children and released them after the event btw.

Glad you had a nice day... wish you did take the camera though... oh well i can amagine how great it was...just the way you describe it..

There was a guy there taking pictures with a really nice camera. I'll try to find his website or at least some pictures of it. It was really cool though, I took environmental science last year and I think it is going to be my major in college.

Thats a good major and very interesting ...i would like that too..hope you can get some pics.. but if not next time would be cool...

I actually want to double major and do research on either fish or reptiles. I really like working in the stream though, I am not entirely sure but I know I want to stick with science and research wildlife.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I'm majoring in bio. with a field concentration-basically taking a bunch of organismal classes. Right now I'm in ichthyology and I went electrofishing again for that yesterday. Our biggest catch was a 38", 23 lb. flathead. We took some pics of it, and if I can get ahold of it, I'll try to get a pic up. Other than that, we caught over 500 lbs of big and smallmouth buffalo...

That thing yesterday sounds cool. I've been seining in the Darby watershed before. There are some nice fish there

What exactly is electrofishing?
Well you send small electric currents into the water that stun the fish and then someone else scoops them up. I've never seen them do it just saw their set up.

Andyjs which park did you seine in? We were at Battelle. What college do you attend?
