Like an excited child I grabbed 10 ghost shrimp and put them into my tank. Should I have put them in a hospital tank first? Kinda nervous because I can only find 3 now and don't want my fish to have parisites from eating them. Never feed live before but something about them screamed tasty treat. My 55 houses assorted american cichlids

If the ghost shrimp have parasites your fish will get them whether they eat them or not.

Yup and how would you treat the srimp for parasite anyhow? The anti parasite meds that I know of are not safe for invertebrates.

So I made a major mistake is what your saying.... I'm 22 had fish since I was 12 and I have an awful feeling I'm about to get a crash course on parasites. I don't care if the shrimp survive they were feeders. what type of harmful parasites could they carry? Any signs to look for on the living shrimp to tell if they have parasites?

Turn up the temp and add salt as a preventive measure and keep your eye on them for any signs of parasites.

you definitely did not make a major mistake. The only parasite I've heard of with ghost shrimp is the Horsehair Worm. I haven't heard anything about it being fatal to fish.

I already use the dose recomended by api aquarium salt, should I use more? Heat turned up to around 86 good or too high?

Stop worrying. Putting something in your tank doesn't automatically mean parasites. Just keep your eyes open for signs of trouble as always.
