Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Aquarium Society was today, my intention was to get only plants, but when these 4 Paratilapia "small spot" came up almost at the start as 1 item, I had no other choice but to bid. Less than $50.

ah ok, how is the auction down there? i live up by eau claire, so i cant really get that way. want to get down to one of the MAAH auctions. but we will see

Many people come up from Chicago, and many other places to sell and buy, this makes for a great variety of fish. There are many rare live bearers (Skifia, Zoogoneticas, Xenoteca etc) dwarf cichlids from old and new world, and loads of rift lake fish as well as the standard fair, and there are plenty of fabulous plants too.

Good stuff, Duane! I've heard the small spot are a little easier on each other than the large spots. If they've been living together then there's probably a good chance that they can cohabitate!

The vast, vast minority of folks on this site - even in areas that have active fish clubs - choose not to be involved. Never understand...

I agree, I have received more interesting fish at rock bottom prices from MAS and GCCA club auctions, swap meets or in simple trades with people I have met, than I could have ever found in other ways. I very seldom go to LFSs at all.
I was able to talk to the former owner of the Paratilapia today about how he kept them while at the auction, and got very useful info.
And I do the same, if I see someone has received some of my fish, I'm always available to help in any way, if they want it.

Sadly, it's a fair long way to my nearest one. An hour each way, hard to pull off when working retail hours especially.

Though, back in my younger years, I drove 300+ miles to their meeting to listen to Dr. Wayne Leibel do a presentation, including calling in sick to work. So I guess an hour really isn't an excuse :P

300+ is a bit rough, I do attend some gcca events when time allows, which is about 90 miles each way for me, the MAS events are quite a bit closer, maybe less than 45 minutes 1 way.
Although I'm pretty much a cichlid 1 trick pony, here are some live bearers I've picked in the past at MAS auctions. excuse my spelling
