and bought a dog face puffer, a humu humu tang, and a dwarf lion.

just a couple of questions:

1. is it normal for the dwarf lion fish to just chill at the bottom of the tank?

2. i also have some GSPs, they are fin nippers, well they went after the lionfish and i guess he stung them, needless to say, they stay away from him now, should i be expecting the GSPs to die soon?

3. the trigger, i gotta say probably my fave, he is really small as of now, but moves all over the tank, will he be alright with the lionfish and dog face puffer?

Normal for a dwarf and all small lions to sit on the bottom and perch. But just an FYI...you should not mix triggers & puffers with Lions as they like fin nip lions.

What sized tank was this? Seems like a lot of SW fish to buy at once.

its a 55 gallon. the GSPs were freshwater and i slowly acclimated them to salt, they are doing great. everyone else seems good, but its only been like two days for the dog face, lion, and picasso.

yeah. . . success with fish should be measured in years and not days.

Not flaming you but you are stacking a rather volatile mix of fish.
Kind of asking for trouble. Don't be suprised if things dont go well.

BTW if those are the kind of fish you're "into" get a much bigger tank.

is a 55 gallon not big enough? im new to salt water, so i am trying to learn as much as i can. any input would be fantastic. these are the only fish i am wanting to add. the Gsps are probably going to go to another tank as i dont like them much at all. the dog face doesnt bother anyone, he just wants his krill and hes cool.

You really should have been asking tbese Qs BEFORE buying those fish, not after. But now since you're asking... The GSPs need 30g ea, as 6" adults. What species of DF is yours? See here for minimum tank size: http://www.**************.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Marine/
The lionfish will pretty much sit around but would prefer a rock shelf to hang under, it'll feel safer. I hope you have a lot of live rock & good protein skimmer to support your bioload & plan on an upgrade in the near future.

the DF is
Arothron nigropunctatus black spotted

got 50 lbs. of live rock that will be here thursday. i am going to pickup a protein skimmer today after work. the guy at the LFS is going to give me a used one. so how long do you think i got until the puffer is too big for the 55 gallon, he is about 6 inches now.

at 6" he is too big for the tank now, he may be able to swim around fine, but he will produce a large bioload, the trigger will grow rather slowly 1-2" per year until it's the size of a football. a 150 would be the min size tank I would put these fish in.

so the puffer alone will create a major bio-load? all i have in this tank as of now is the three previously named fish, a blue damsel and 2 gsp that are leaving as soon as i can get rid of them, oh and a G. tile that is nowhere to be found. is this tank already overstocked? im sorry, im used to freshwater cichlids, so this doesnt sound too overstocked to me by no means, but like i said i am new to Salt water.

You must not put this rock into your tank until it is cured! It will add tons of ammoina & kill off the inhabitants in your tank, if you don't.

So as of right now, there is no rock or skimmer on the tank? Boy, are you working backwards!

I agree--your tank is already overstocked. IMO, you should return all the new fish you just bought until you are ready to properly house them & figure out what you are going to do with the GSPs. Please find a proper home for them, which means no less than 30g ea.

In the meantime, research, reasearch, research! There is a link belolw to a forum all about puffers.
