Just wondering, are there any places online that can give me a price estimate on glass or acrylic?
I want to build an aquarium someday, be it glass or acrylic.
The Dimensions I want are 4' x 30'' x 24''

I've never built an aquarium before, so I'm looking at all the tank builds on MFK.
I have a question though, I have seen tanks with metal frames, is it cheap to do this?
Build a metal frame around the glass, then silicone glass to metal frame?

Before anyone says "A local glass cutter"
I tried.
They only do windows for houses and cars.
And they dont sell panes unless you're a contractor or something.

Thought about doing that, but from what I see/hear, its pretty hard to do?
I dunno, I might just go for a pond instead of building a tank.

Well, a six foot diameter pond is $25...
So..
Probably gonna go with that.

first off on a tank like that plywood would be easier and more expensive secondly id personally use 12mm (1/2") glass allround but u can do a 12mm base and 10mm sides (3/8"). btw there are glass suppliers around trust me in brisbane (australia) there are 3-4 really good ones that are big.

I'll just have to start calling around I guess.
Hopefully I can get something.
One of the places I called wouldnt even give me the time of day, let alone a price estimate.

This is still in the planning process as you can see, as I dont have the funding for it all yet.

The tank idea might be scrapped as I'm thinking of doing a pond for a pair/trio of rays.

i got my glass from crystal glass they never bothered awnsering my e mail with price. i had to walk in and i purchased it right away and walked out the front door with it it was 14 by 96 115.00. most of the wood coated was more expensive than the glass the only piece i saved on was the base 24 by 96 (maybe)

This one piece was also expensive to seal its 200 dollar sheet of wood man.
so if you built one all glass at 14 inches it would probably be in the 300 range

i didnt want much glass because i have three broken ones( all glass aquariums)

i hope that awnsers some of your questions.

That gives me a pretty good idea.

I meen, I could buy a brand new 4x2x2 allglass forabout... $600 I think without hood or anything.

I'm just trying to see what a better route would be.
I dont have any tools really, besides a drill so... building things is a bit hard.
:D
