Is this a protopterus annectans annectans? I've had it a couple weeks and its feeding well on on shrimp and algae discs

Yep that's a west african lungfish a Volta variant. Protopterus annectens annectens "Volta"

Never heard of a "Volta" variant, is that just the locality?

Yep it's a location the fish was caught from. Most west african lungfish came from Nigeria.
